In a powerful statement before the UN Security Council on June 16, 2025, Iran’s representative Amir Saeid Iravani condemned Israel’s recent military aggression against Iranian territory, declaring that “Israel has crossed all red lines.”

Iravani emphasized that Tehran does not seek war or escalation but will vigorously defend its sovereignty until Israeli attacks cease or meaningful international action is taken.

Iravani denounced Israel’s deliberate strike on an Iranian nuclear installation, which operates fully under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He characterized the attack as “dangerous and illegal,” warning that had Iran not contained the situation immediately, the consequences would have been catastrophic. He dismissed Israel’s claims of “surgical strikes” as “false and misleading.”

Highlighting the human toll, Iravani revealed that 1,481 Iranians, many of them children, have been martyred or injured due to Israeli aggression. He labeled Israel’s actions as “war crimes” and asserted Iran’s natural right to self-defense, as guaranteed by the UN Charter.

The Iranian diplomat also held the United States accountable, accusing it of providing military, intelligence, and political support that enabled Israel’s attacks.

The text reads: Iran’s Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani:

  • “Israel” has crossed all red lines with its aggression against Iran.
  • “Israel” deliberately attacked a peaceful nuclear facility operating under the full safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency; this is a dangerous and illegal act.
  • If Iran had not managed to contain the situation immediately after the Israeli aggression against the nuclear facility, the consequences would have been severe.
  • Israel’s claim of carrying out “surgical” strikes is false and misleading.
  • 1,481 Iranians have fallen as martyrs and wounded in the Israeli aggression, and many of the victims are children.
  • What Israel is doing is a war crime.
  • We have exercised our natural right to legitimate self-defense, guaranteed by the United Nations Charter.

Iravani criticized the hypocrisy of Western powers, particularly the US, for undermining diplomatic efforts. He noted that just as Iran approached the sixth round of nuclear negotiations in “good faith” with new proposals to close gaps, the US responded “in bad faith” by supporting Israeli aggression. This duplicity, he argued, erodes trust and obstructs peaceful resolution.

The Iranian envoy sharply condemned Israel as the only nuclear-armed state in the Middle East, accusing it of refusing to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty and of keeping its nuclear facilities outside IAEA safeguards. He denounced Israel’s “existential threat” narrative as a “falsehood” used to justify aggression and mask ongoing war crimes, including the genocide in Gaza.

Iran’s representative at the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, delivered a clear and uncompromising message: while Iran does not seek war, it will defend its sovereignty against Israeli aggression and calls on the international community to hold Israel accountable.
